Miller spins lackluster Windies to warmup win over United Arab Emirates

by March 1st, 2018

The West Indies bounced back from a lackluster batting performance to pull off a 32run win over the United Arab Emirates in their second official warmup match ahead of the ICC World Cup qualifiers at the Harrare Sports Club in Bulawayo.

They were led by spinner Nikita Miller who bagged 5 for 20 from his 10 overs as the UAE, in their pursuit of 116, were blown away for 83 in 29 overs in.

Kemar Roach had earlier laid the foundation when he removed the first three batsmen to end with 3 for 15 from his 5 overs while Ashley Nurse picked up 2 for 21.

This followed another subpar batting effort from the Windies which saw them bundled out for just 115 in 33.4 overs after they were sent to bat.

They made a decent start after being put in to bat, with openers Chris Gayle (16) and Evin Lewis (10) putting on 31 before falling within six balls of each other to the seamer Mohammad Naveed who ended with figures of 2 for 27.

Shimron Hetmyer (20) and Marlon Samuels (15) added 34 for the third wicket, before spinners Imran Haider (4 for 16) and Ahmed Raza (2 for 14) effected a major collapse, as the Windies slipped from 66 for 2 to 115 all out, with no one outside the top four getting into double figures.

Thursday result follows the Windies going down by 29 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis method to Afghanistan earlier this week in their opening warm-up match.
