by March 3rd, 2018

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) says it has not received any report of damage or injury following an earth tremor earlier this afternoon.

ODPEM’s Director General Major Clive Davis is assuring that the agency will continue to monitor the situation.

The Earthquake Unit says the quake felt was magnitude 4.0, at a depth of 8.7 km with its epicentre 10 km south of St. Margarets Bay in Portland, at approximately 1:53 p.m.

Residents have reported feeling the tremor in Portland, St. Mary, St. Ann, Kingston, St. Thomas, St. Elizabeth and St. Catherine.

Reports in other media suggest that some buildings in Kingston were damaged, but Major Davis says ODPEM has not received any such report.

Some social media users have commented that the tremor felt was very strong, and that their homes seemed to shake violently.
