Members of the Jamaican IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championship delegation returning home tonight

Members of the Jamaican delegation who participated in the just concluded IAAF World indoor Athletics Championship which ended yesterday in Birmingham, England, are returning to the island this evening.

This after copping two silver medals from four days of competition, to finish 14th overall on the medal table.

The Jamaican female quartet of Tovea Jenkins, Jeneive Russell, Anastasia Leroy and Stephanie Ann- McPherson were disqualified for a lane violation after finishing second behind the United States in the women’s 4×400 meters.

USA won  in a championship record 3 minutes 23.85 seconds, with Poland second in a national record 3 minutes 26.09 seconds, and great Britain third in a season best 3 minutes 29. 38 seconds.

Meanwhile another Jamaican in Ronald levy finished third in his heat in the men’s 60 meters hurdles event yesterday in 7.62 seconds and missed a place in the final. The event was won by Andrew Pozzi of Great Britain in a season best 7.46 seconds.

Jamaica’s two silver medal were won by Danielle Thomas-Dodd and Kimberly Williams in the field.

Thomas- Dodd competing in the women’s shot Putt event threw a lifetime best and National Indoor record of 19.22 meters.

Williams mined silver in the women’s triple jump with a personal best leap of 14.48 meters.

USA finished atop the standings with 18 medals , 6 gold, 10 silver and 2 bronze – with Ethiopia securing  second place with five medals, 4 gold and a silver while Poland finished third with 2 gold, 2 silver and bronze.
