Chinese business operators in Brown’s Town close shops

The Chinese business community in Brown’s Town, St. Ann has shut their doors in a show of solidarity, as they mourn the murder of one of their own.

Businessman 28-year-old Teng Fei Cheng was shot and killed at a supermarket he operated in Brown’s Town, on February 27.

Three men have been charged with   murder, conspiracy to murder, robbery, and conspiracy to robbery, and are facing the court.

The 18 supermarkets and haberdasheries in Brown’s Town owned by Chinese business people are closed from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Businessman and Senior Justice of the Peace in St. Ann Anthony Charley says he has been meeting with some members of the Chinese community.

Mr. Charley says Cheng will be buried on Sunday.

He adds that the killing of the businessman has not only impacted the Chinese but the wider business community in Brown’s Town.
