Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Mark Golding, has questioned the legal basis on which the government will carry-out its plan to start paying public sector workers an increase in wages.

This despite the fact, that some groups have rejected the four year offer.

Police, teachers and nurses have rejected government’s 16 percent wage increase, which the Andrew Holness-led administration plans to start paying month-end.

Finance Minister Audley Shaw had indicated that the funds have to be paid out in this month’s salaries, as they cannot be brought over into the next financial year.

In his maiden budget address in parliament today (Mar 13) Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Mark Golding, likened the government’s decision to a dictatorship.

Mr. Golding wants the Finance Minister to withdraw the position, he has taken.
