Statue of Legendary Jamaican and West Indies cricketer Oneil ‘Collie’ Smith to be unveiled on March 21

The statute of the legendary Jamaican and West Indies cricketer Oneil ‘Collie’ Smith will be unveiled at the ground of Boys Town Football club in Kingston, at ceremony on March 21.

Smith who also represented Boys Town and Kingston College died in hospital in 1959 following injuries received in a motor-car accident. He played in 26 test matches between 1955 and 1959, scoring 1,331 runs, including four centuries.

The statute sculpted by Kay Sullivan was made possible by the Boys Town club along with support from the chase fund.

The statue will be unveiled by smith’s team-mate and West Indies legend sir Garfield Sobers.

The ceremony which is set to get underway at 11am, coincides with the 113th memorial of the founding director of boys town the late father’ Hugh Sherlock.
