Fisher resigns as Director of Elections; PNP concerned

by March 14th, 2018

The Opposition People’s National Party has raised concern over reports that director of elections Orrette Fisher has resigned, effective today (Mar 14).

The resignation comes, amid a court battle over his tenure.

It’s reported that Fisher cited concerns about political influence in the operations of the Electoral Office.

Julian Robinson, who also serves on the electoral commission, says the resignation, is surprising.

Mr. Robinson alleges that Mr. Fisher has been subjected to constant abuse and undermining of his integrity and competence.

Mr. Robinson says the PNP will do all to protect the integrity of the EOJ.

He says in light of the sudden resignation, it’s expected that an Acting Director will be appointed, and the process to replace Mr. Fisher started soon.

Attempts to contact Mr. Fisher or any other EOJ official has proven futile.

Mr. Fisher has served at the EOJ for over 23 years.

His court case involved challenging his employment on a one year contract, instead of the stipulated 7 years.
