by March 16th, 2018

Deputy Superintendent of Police Albert Dyer has won his appeal against his conviction for interfering in an investigation, by the Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom).

Dyer was arrested and charged in 2013 by Indecom investigators and was convicted in 2014 of interfering with an Indecom probe.

He was fined $800,000.

He appealed against his conviction and fine and both were set aside today, by the Court of Appeal.

Dyer was arrested and charged arising from investigations into the fatal shooting by the police, of a woman in Windsor Heights near Central Village, St. Catherine, in August 2013.

It was alleged that Indecom investigators went to the Central Village police station to secure the firearms used in the shooting.

The allegations were that DSP Dyer had refused to hand over the weapons he had allegedly taken from the policemen.

In November 2013, DSP Dyer was served with a summons to appear in the St. Catherine parish court in Spanish Town and was convicted of the offence.
