Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips says while the state of emergency is supported by the Opposition, that measure is not a long term solution to tackling crime in Jamaica.

Dr. Phillips was reacting to the declaration of a state of emergency in the St. Catherine North police division this morning (Mar 18).

The enhanced security measures will last 14 days, in this initial stage.

Speaking with Irie FM News, Dr. Phillips says the residents of St. Catherine have long been in need of a solution to the crime problem.

Dr. Phillips says the country is yet to see a comprehensive crime plan from government.
