by March 19th, 2018

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) has voted to reject the government’s latest wage offer.

The government made a new offer to the association on Friday.

A general council meeting of the JTA was scheduled today (Mar 19) so that teachers could state whether or not it was satisfactory.

President of the JTA Georgia Waugh-Richards  notes that  aspects of the new offer cannot be released, as negotiations are ongoing.

Meantime, the JTA President states that the latest position of teachers has been communicated to the Finance Ministry.

She says she is hopeful that an amicable solution will be found during the negotiating process.

Last week, teachers, stayed away from classes for three days, as part of efforts to get a better deal from government.

They had earlier rejected the offer of a 16 percent increase over four years.
