Blake and Thompson win at Queensland Track Classic

2011 world champion Yohan Blake and 2016 double Olympic gold medallist Elaine Thompson were among a number of Jamaican winners at the 2018 Queensland International Track Classic.

Blake has been in training at Runaway Bay since arriving in Australia 10 days ago for the Commonwealth Games.

The 28 year old clocked 10.34sec (no wind) in a strong heat to finish ahead of Canadian Aaron Brown (10.41) and Sydney’s Rohan Browning (10.46).

Jamaican compatriot Julian Forte (10.48) won the second fastest of the heats Great Britain’s Adam Gemili second in 10.51 seconds.

Thompson meanwhile landed the women’s 100m in 11,72sec while Christania Williams (11.63) was third in race two behind Dina Asher-Smith (11.30 into a 1m/s headwind).

Ronald Levy, Stephanie-Ann McPherson, Shericka Jackson and Tajay Gayle were also winners.

Levy captured the 110m hurdles in 13.83sec, while Megan Tapper was third in the 100m hurdles in 13.65 seconds.

McPherson was timed at 51.07 seconds for her victory in the 400m, Jackson clocked 23.05sec to win the 200m and Gayle leapt 7.95m to win the long jump.

National record holder O’Dayne Richards had to settle for second in the shot put at 19.77m while Janieve Russell was also second in the 400m hurdles at 55.10 seconds.
