Ronald Levy leads Jamaica 1-2 in 110m hurdles at Commonwealth Games

Jamaica’s medal tally at the ongoing Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast now stands at 9 after another 5 medals (2 gold, 2 silver and one bronze) were won on today’s 6th day of action.

Ronald Levy (13.19s) led a Jamaica one-two in the men’s 110m hurdles when he won the event ahead of Hansle Parchment who captured silver in a time of 13.22 seconds. Schoolboy Dejour Russell finished at the back of the field in 13.92 seconds.

It was also a Jamaican sweep of the top two spots in the women’s triple jump where Kimberley Williams (14.64m) successfully retained her title ahead of Shanieka Rickettes who claimed silver in a personal best 14.52m.

Action on the track saw Javon Francis winning bronze in the men’s 400m with a season best effort of 45.11s with gold and silver going to Botswana duo Isaac Makwala (44.35s) and Baboloki Thebe (45.09s).

National record holder Rusheen McDonald failed to finish while Demish Gaye was 6th in 45.56s.

Earlier Anastasia Le-Roy advanced to the women’s 400m final after winning her semi-final heat in a season best 51.08s.

Tovea Jenkins was a non-starter in semi-final 2 while defending champion Stephanie-Ann McPherson won semi-final 3 in 51.21s.

Warren Weir (20.60s), Kenroy Anderson (20.89s) and Rasheed Dwyer (20.78s) all made progress to the semi-finals of the men’s 200m.

Sashalee Forbes with a season best 22.88s, Elaine Thompson (23.09s) and Shericka Jackson (22.87s) are all through to the semis in the women’s equivalent.

Meanwhile in the men’s 400m hurdles, Jaheel Hyde (49.14s) and Andre Clarke – a personal best 49.14s – made progress to the next round as Ricardo Cunningham (50.68s) was left behind.

Advancing in the women’s event were Janieve Russell (54.01s), Rhonda Whyte (55.10s) and Ristanana Tracey (55.66s).

Demar Forbes (7.93m) and Tajay Gayle (7.88s), qualify for the men’s long jump final with Shawn D. Thompson (7.69m) just missing out.

In badminton Kathryn Wynter made progress in the women’s singles with a 2-0 win over Chloe Le-Tissier of Guernsey while Simon Tomlinson had a 4-0 win against Shakquan Hodge of St. Kitts and Nevis in the men’s singles.

There was also a 2-0 victory in the round of 64 for the mixed doubles pair Anthony McNee and Alana Bailey against the Seychelles pair of Steve Malcouzane and Juliette Ah Wan.
