Chris Gayle blasts half century to guide Kings Eleven Punjab to IPL victory

Jamaica and West Indies opener Chris Gayle announced his arrival at the Kings Eleven Punjab with a brutal half century knock which paved the way for a close four run win over the Chennai Superkings in the Indian Premier league yesterday.

Gayle who almost didn’t make it to IPL 2018 and was picked up only after his name was called three separate times at the auction in January

Walloped 63 off 33 balls as the kings eleven Punjab piled up a challenging 197 for 7 from their 20 overs.

His memorable debut knock included four sixes and seven fours and he shared in a 96 run opening stand with Lokesh Rahul who cracked 37.

The Chennai Super Kings then made a game of the chase of 198 for the victory but were restricted for 193 for 5 in their 20 overs.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni kept the Superkings in the game right down to the end before he was left unbeaten on 79 from 44 balls including six fours and five sixes.

Ambati Rayudu was next best with 49 mas Andrew Tye finished with 2 for 47.
