Agri Min: no truth to Monymusk closure rumours

by April 20th, 2018

Permanent Secretary in the Agriculture Ministry Donovan Stanbury is dispelling rumours that the Monymusk Sugar Factory in Clarendon will be closed indefinitely.

It has been reported that the parent company Pan Caribbean Sugar Company would be closed today (Apl 20).

This as the factory reportedly accumulated $6 b in losses since it was purchased from the government, along with the Bernard Lodge and Frome estates in 2009.

However, Mr. Stanbury says he is unaware of any such talks, stating that it is illegal for a factory to be closed during crop season.
