Reggae Girlz go down to Cuba in CFU Women’s Challenge Series

Jamaica’s senior Reggae Girlz had to settle for the runner up spot in Group B of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Challenge Series after going 1-0 to Cuba at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium.

The lone goal was scored by Maria Torres in 61st minute, her fourth in the three-team warm-up series for the upcoming Concacaf World Cup qualifiers set to start on May 5.

Cuba with the result finished as the top team with maximum six points from two games, with its other victory coming in a 7-0 demolition of Barbados in the opening contest on Wednesday.

The Jamaicans, who had a large spell of possession, plus a host of goal-scoring opportunities,  ended with three points, with their lone win coming a 3-2 triumph over Barbados on Friday.

Barbados failed to earn a point.

The Reggae Girls will now be heading off for a one week camp in Orlando to wrap up preparations for the first round of the Concacaf World Cup qualifiers in Haiti.

Jamaica will play in Group B against Martinique, Guadeloupe and host Haiti, following the withdrawal of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
