The Independent Commission of Investigations Indecom and the Bureau of Special Investigations are probing the shooting and wounding of a woman in the vicinity of Sovereign Centre, off Barbican Road, this morning.

Indecom is also appealing for witnesses to assist by providing information.

Reports are that about 8:30 a.m. there was an altercation between an off-duty police corporal and a man who was attempting to wipe the windshield of the officer’s vehicle.

According to Indecom during the exchange, the officer discharged his keep and care firearm which resulted in the wounding of the woman.

It is understood that the wounded woman was assisted to the hospital by a doctor on the scene.

She is being treated for wounds to her abdomen and leg.

Indecom says it has taken an initial statement from the concerned officer, and the investigative team is processing the scene and vehicle of the wounded lady, obtaining CCTV footage and canvassing for additional witnesses.
