Double Olympic gold medal winner Elaine Thompson was the best placed Jamaican at today’s season opening IAAF Diamond League meeting in Doha, Qatar.
She had to settle for 3rd in the in the women’s 100m in a season best 10.93 seconds to finish behind Commonwealth Games champion Marie-Josee Ta’Lou of the Ivory Coast who won in a world leading and new personal best 10.85s.
Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria was second in 10.90s while Jura Levy finished at the back of the field in 11.29s.
2015 world champion Danielle Williams placed 5th in the women’s 100m hurdles in 12.82 seconds as world record holder Kendra Harrison posted a season best 12.53 seconds on her way to victory.
Rasheed Dwyer, meanwhile, was at the back of the field in the men’s 200m in a time of 20.72s. World and Olympic 110m hurdles champion Omar McLeod suffered from abductor soreness and was unable to compete in the event that was won by the American Noah Lyles in a new meet record and personal best 19.83 seconds.
