NEPA conducts data collection following fire at tyre storage facility in Riverton

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), says its representatives are at the site of a fire in Riverton City to gather data on the situation.

Senior Manager in the Environmental Management sub division, Richard Nelson says first responders, to include the JDF and Fire Brigade are still on the scene battling the blaze.

While efforts continue to get the flames under control, smoke is rising from the area.

Mr. Nelson says the fire reportedly started at just after midnight, at a private facility that stores old tyres.

He says Nepa will be analyzing data from the air quality monitoring device in the community to determine the extent of the effects on citizens’ health.
