by May 11th, 2018

The Toronto Raptors have fired Dwane Casey a day after he won the 2018 NBA Coach of The Year Award.

Casey, the most successful coach in Raptors history, lost his job after consecutive second-round playoff sweeps at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He had one year left on his contract, worth $6 million.

The 61 year old after taking charge in 2011, led Toronto to a franchise best 59 wins and 23 losses this season to secure the number one seed in the Eastern Conference.

Under his guidance the team made five straight playoff appearances, won four Atlantic Division titles and also recorded three consecutive 50-win seasons.

The Raptors after deciding not to pick up the option on Jay Triano’s contract in 2011 saw it regular-season record improved in all but one of Casey’s seven seasons.

Casey posted a 320-238 (.573) overall record at the helm of the Raptors.
