4 teens held for stabbing death of Bog Walk High student

Four teenagers have been taken into police custody, in relation to the stabbing death of a Bog Walk High School student, and the wounding of another, yesterday (May 14).

Dead is 16-year-old, Kavaughn Barnes, of Bog Walk, in St. Catherine, while admitted at hospital, is a 17-year old schoolmate.

Operations Officer for St. Catherine North, Superintendent Ralsford Hardy, says information received is that the incident resulted from a gang feud.

He says the incident played-out in the town of Bog Walk.

According to Superintendent Hardy, the police will have to pay more attention to students loitering after school, as officers try to make the environment as safe as possible.

He says the police are placed under more pressure, as they try to get some wandering students off the streets, and into buses to go home, at nights.

He is encouraging parents, to play a more integral role in ensuring that students get home after school.

Police reports are that about 3:10 p.m. yesterday Barnes and another teen were walking along the roadway, when they were accosted by a group of boys, with whom they had a long-standing dispute.

A knife was used to inflict stab wounds to Barnes and the other boy.

Both teens were assisted to hospital, where Barnes was pronounced dead, and the other teen, admitted.

Meantime, a trauma team from the Education Ministry returned to the Bog Walk High School today (May 15) to continue grief counselling, following the stabbing death of a student.

16-year-old Kevaughn Barnes, of main street in Bog Walk, was stabbed to death by group of teenaged boys, from his community, yesterday.

Another 17-year-old student, who was walking with Kevaughn, was also stabbed.

He has been admitted at hospital.

Principal of Bog Walk High Patrick Phillips says Kevaughn was in the Alternative Pathways to Secondary Education Programme, and was actively involved in class activities.

He says his death has greatly impacted the school, especially his twin brother, who is also a student at the institution.

The trauma team was dispatched to the school yesterday, following the incident.

Meantime Education Minister, Senator Ruel Reid has denounced the killing of the teen.
