Messado gets bail

Attorney-at-law Jennifer Messado, who is facing fraud charges, appeared in the St. Andrew Parish Court today (May 15), and was granted bail in the sum of $800,000.00 with surety.

She is to return to court on July 3 and is to report to the Constant Spring police station, daily.

A stop order has been placed on her, and she is to surrender her travel documents.

Ms. Messado was taken into custody last week Friday, May 11 .

She has been charged with 4 counts of forgery, 2 counts of uttering forged documents, conspiracy to defraud, causing money to be paid-out by forged documents, and money laundering.

It’s being alleged, that on December 20, 2017, the accused prepared an agreement of sales for two parcels of land, without the knowledge and consent of the owner.

It’s further alleged that the signature of the trustee was forged, and US $270,000.00 was collected, as down payment from a prospective purchaser.

These properties were put to sale for JA $232 m (US $1.8 m).

Attorneys-at-law Christopher Townsend and Pierre Rogers made the bail application.

Beverly Barakat, who is charged along with Messado, also appeared in court and was offered bail in the sum of $50,000.00 and is to return to court on July 3.

She was arrested on Monday and charged with conspiracy to defraud and operating a real estate firm, without a licence.

It is alleged, that Barakat conspired with Messado in the transfer of the property.
