by May 16th, 2018

A policeman was again arrested and charged for the murder of a man in Point Hill, St. Catherine close to three months ago.

Detective Constable Shawn Pennington was arrested by the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) and charged for the murder of Rishawn Oliver.

This followed an investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom) and a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mr. Pennington was taken before Parish Judge Evan Brown, in the St. Catherine Circuit Court.

He was granted bail in the sum of eight hundred thousand dollars with sureties last week.

In a statement today, giving the update, Indecom pointed out the case was dismissed last week because of the judge’s interpretation of the recent court of appeal decision in Police Federation versus Indecom.

At the time, the court was told the DPP might pursue the matter.

The DPP ruled that the officer be charged.

The matter was adjourned for mention on October 25.

According to Indecom, Oliver was fatally shot about 10:45 p.m. on February 24, along the Pusey Main Road in Point Hill, St. Catherine.
