Basil Waite victorious in PNP run off

St. Elizabeth businessman Basil Waite has been declared the winner of a candidate run off, for the Peoples National Party, in today’s (May 20) voting exercise to select who will represent the party in the St. Elizabeth North East constituency, at the next general election.

When the vote count ended just before 5 o’clock this afternoon, Mr. Waite polled 576 votes.

His challenger Everton Fisher polled 271.

A total of 849 PNP delegates cast their ballots today.

This represents a 77 % voter turnout.

2 ballots were deemed spoiled.

The selection process became necessary after Evon Redman indicated that he will not be seeking re-election.
