JTA concerned over delay in negotiations for HEART/ NTA staff

by May 25th, 2018

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association says it’s disappointed, if not disgusted, over the failure of the HEART Trust NTA to commence negotiations on behalf of lecturers, and instructors.

The JTA is seeking to get a heads of agreement, for the contract period April 2017, to March 2019.

The association says, having submitted its claim from December 2016, with a clarification meeting in February 2017, it remains amazed, as to the delay in commencing negotiations.

The association is renewing its call, for the start of negotiations as a matter of urgency.

JTA Deputy Secretary General, Dr. Mark Nicely,  says  HEART Trust has indicated two main issues delaying the start of negotiations.

The first is the merger with the Jamaica Foundation for Lifelong Learning, the National Youth Service and the Apprenticeship Board, and the second, its removal from the Education Ministry, to the Office of the Prime Minister.

Dr. Nicely says, the workers are restive.

The JTA is strongly suggesting that island-wide consultations be held with staff.
