by May 31st, 2018

The West Indies, led by player of the match Evin Lewis, strolled to an easy 72 runs win over the ICC World XI in the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge clash at Lord’s.

The World XI chasing 200 for victory was cut down for 172 after earlier slumping to 8 for 4 inside 4 overs thanks to Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera (61 from 37 balls) – last man Tymal Mills unable to bat due to an injury he sustained in the field.

Kesrick Williams took 3 for 42 to wrap up the victory after Samuel Badree (2-4), Andre Russell (2-25), Keemo Paul (1-24) and captain Carlos Braithwaite (1-14) had removed the top order.

Earlier the Windies made 199 for 4 from their 20 overs after they were sent to take first strike.

Lewis led the way with 58 from 26 balls, including 5 of the Windies’ 15 maximums, while Marlon Samuels added 43 from 22 deliveries and Chris Gayle struck one boundary while contributing 18.

Denesh Ramdin (44 from 25 balls) and Andre Russell, who hit 3 sixes on his way to 21 from 10 balls, put on 47 runs for the 5th wicket.

Rashid Khan (2-48) led the bowling for the ICC World XI.

The match was to help raise funds for the reconstruction of the five venues in the Caribbean that were damaged by hurricanes Irma and Maria last year.

Speaking after the match Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridia, who captained the World XI, announced he would be donating US $20,000 to the fund.
