Westmoreland cops launch hunt for armed robbers

The Westmoreland police have launched a manhunt for gunmen, who went on a robbery spree in communities across the parish, killing one man in the process.

Dead is 35-year-old Dwight Brooks, of Broughton District, Westmoreland.

Reports are that about 1:30 this morning, the gunmen struck in fort Williams district in the parish, shooting two persons, a 53 year old man, and his 51 year old wife, and robbing them of a motorcar.

Police say, about an hour later at 2:30 a.m., the assailants went into Hartford district, where they robbed victims of electronics.

Later on, in the Broughton district, the assailants robbed brooks of his motorcar before opening gunfire hitting him.

The police were called, and he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The two stolen motor vehicles were intercepted by the police, along mango hill main road in the parish.

The men abandoned the vehicles, and escaped on foot in the area.
