by June 1st, 2018

The police in area two say motorists are to expect increased patrol on the streets throughout this month, as a greater push to stem road fatalities and other related offences.

This follows the launch of a road safety campaign in St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland   this morning, under the theme “Arrive alive – care for lives when you drive”.

In St. Ann, the launch took place along the Llandovery main road, where several road crashes have occurred.

Head of the Area two police, ACP Norman Heywood says the initiative is aimed at achieving better traffic management and other related matters.

He says the police also carried-out spot checks with some motorists at the launch, this morning.

Area two has recorded some 29 fatal accidents resulting in 31 deaths since the start of the year.

This represents an 81 per cent increase in road fatalities when compared to the corresponding period last year.

Some 18 deaths from 16 fatal accidents were recorded in 2017.

146 people have died in crashes since the start of the year.

Meanwhile, Head of the Road Safety Unit Kenute Hare says the move by the Area two police is welcomed and it will improve traffic and other related road matters significantly.

This following the launch of a road safety campaign by the area two police in St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland, this morning (June 1).
