by June 14th, 2018

Eleven persons remain in detention as a result of the enhanced security measures in place in the St. Catherine north division.

Ground commander in charge of operations in the state of emergency, Senior Superintendent Gary Griffiths says over two thousand persons have been arrested and processed for various offences since the state of emergency was put in place.

SSP Griffiths adds that despite a reduction in murders and shootings, the police are struggling to rid the streets of illegal guns.

SSP Griffiths has also lauded the enhanced security measures in the division, claiming that the police have been able to curtail the issue of extortion that prevails in several St. Catherine communities, especially business districts.

Meantime, ground commander in charge of operations in the state of emergency in the St. Catherine North division, Senior Superintendent Gary Griffiths, says things have returned to normal in the traffic environment, following some delays yesterday.

Taxi operators and commuters were left fuming yesterday afternoon due to hours of delays, as the security forces ramped up their operations at check points under the state of emergency in St. Catherine North.

While admitting that there were some inconveniences, SSP Griffiths says it was sorted out shortly after.

Meantime, SSP Griffiths says reports elsewhere in the media that the security forces were visibly absent from check points at the weekend, are not true.
