Brazil re-ignites campaign and Nigeria comes to life on day 9 of 2018 FIFA World Cup

Yesterday five-time winners Brazil re-ignited their campaign at the 2018 FIFA World cup Russia  after securing a two nil win over Costa Rica in Stoppage time yesterday.

the enthralling and entertaining group e’ contest ended in disaster, as Costa Rica now become the first team from Concacaf to be eliminated.

Philippe Coutinho opened the scoring for the South Americans in the 91st minute for his second goal of the tournament.

Then Brazil added a second through Neymar who found the target after 96 minutes and 49 seconds……the latest recorded 90th minute goal in a world cup match since 1966.

Meanwhile Switzerland joined Brazil at the top of the group after securing a 2-1 win over serbia who slips a point behind the two heading into the final group game.

A Aleksandar Mitrovic header had given Serbia the lead after five minutes however thunderous strike by Granit Xhaka early in the second half pulled Switzerland level.

The Swiss then secured all three points after a last-minute breakaway goal by Xherdan Shaqiri.

In the meantime Nigeria completed a two-nil win in the crucial Group ‘d’ fixture against Iceland at the Volgograd arena

They were led by a double strike from Ahmed Musa.

Musa is now Nigeria’s all-time top scorer at the world cup with 4 goals.
