Hetmyer returns for Windies Test series against Bangladesh

by July 3rd, 2018

Young Guyanese batsman Shimron Hetmyer, who was ruled out of the squad for the recent third Test against Sri Lanka in Barbados through illness, has been named in the West Indies 13-man squad to face Bangladesh in the upcoming two Test series in the Caribbean.

The squad will once again be led by captain Jason Holder and includes majority of the players that played in the competitive series against sixth ranked Sri Lanka that ended in a 1-1 draw.

The first Test at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua on Wednesday while the second game will be played at Sabina Park.

Bangladesh will also engage the Windies in a three match One Day International Series and in three T20 Internationals.

This series is also an opportunity for West Indies to go past Bangladesh in the Test rankings. Bangladesh are currently in eighth position with 75 points, with West Indies ninth on 72 points. A win for the home side will see them overtake Bangladesh, while a drawn series will maintain the status quo. Bangladesh will remain in the eighth spot even if they win 2-0, though they will narrow the gap with seventh-ranked Pakistan.

The full squad: captain Jason Holder, Devendra Bishoo, Kraigg Brathwaite, Roston Chase, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Keemo Paul, Kieran Powell and Kemar Roach.
