by July 9th, 2018

Jhaniele Fowler had another strong performance to lead the West Coast Fever to a hard-fought 59-58 win over defending champions Sunshine Coast Lightning.

Fowler was huge in the clash, scoring 50 tough goals – often wearing two defenders and copping plenty of knocks from just 56 shot attempts. Her frontcourt partner Nat Medhurst was Nissan MVP with 26 assists and nine goals of her own.

The Fever with the last-second win remain at the top of the standings after 10 rounds in the Suncorp Super Netball League on 56 points.

Fowler’s latest outburst saw her increasing her tally to a league best 555 goals.

The Fever’s lead is down to 3 points after second place Giants Netball recorded a 66-56 win over the NSW Swifts.

Third spot is occupied by Melbourne Vixens – the team of defender Kadie-Ann Dehaney – on 47 points.

The Vixens in their last outing battled to a narrow 58-57 win on the road against Romelda Aiken’s Queensland Firebirds.

Aiken in that contest shot a game high 38 of 47 and also grabbed 2 rebounds to increase her total in that category to a competition best 36.

Elsewhere Shimona Nelson was a team-high 32 of 34 but was unable to prevent the struggling Adelaide Thunderbirds from suffering a 58-48 loss to Magpies Netball.
