Brathwaite ton puts Windies in command

Barbadian opener Kraigg Braithwaite wrapped up a second consecutive Test century while Shimron Hetmeyer supported with an unbeaten half century as the West Indies dominated the opening day of the second Test against Bangladesh at Sabina Park.

Braithwaite struck 9 fours while facing 279 balls before he was removed for 110 by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

The Windies, after they were sent to bat, went to stumps comfortably placed at 295 for 4, having accumulated runs at 4.85 per over in the post-tea session: a significant jump from 2.25 and 2.83 in the first two sessions respectively.

The right handed Brathwaite meanwhile shared in a century 4th wicket partnership of 109 with Hetmeyer which came on the back of a 79-run third-wicket stand with Shai Hope (29), and 50 runs for the second wicket with Kieran Powell (29).

Hetmyer, who had added 48 for the unbroken fifth-wicket stand with Roston Chase, remained unbeaten on 84 off 98 balls – his second Test fifty.

Hetmeyer and Roston Chase have so far added 48 for the 5th wicket with Chase not out on 16.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the most successful bowler for the visitors with 3 for 90 while Taijul Islam took 1 for 65.
