Drought causes water restrictions in St. Mary

by July 18th, 2018

The worsening drought has led to water restrictions for hundreds of residents in St. Mary.

The National Water Commission says, the situation has forced the company to reduce operations at its Hunts Town and Sand Hill facilities.

Low inflows to the hunts town plant will result in the Top End and Dressike communities receiving water Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Hunts Town and surrounding areas will access water on Fridays and Saturdays, and Wellington and Ramble, will be supplied with water on Mondays and Tuesdays.

In the meantime, residents served by the Sand Hill facility, will experience a reduction in their water supply for about 8 hours each day, mainly between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Yesterday, the country was warned of possible restrictions, even as the commission revealed, that the hermitage dam was at 48 point 9 percent of capacity.

Hermitage can hold just over 400 million gallons of water, but the levels are going down, due to reduced rainfall.

The Mona dam is almost full.
