by July 19th, 2018

Following a murder free month in June, St. Ann was unable to continue the trend this month.

This as the parish has recorded about 4 murders already, for July.

Head of the division Superintendent Michael Smith told Irie FM News that this is a reduction when compared to last year.

Up to this time in July 2017 there had been 8 murders in St. Ann.

Superintendent Smith also pointed to a reduction in murders since the start of the year, in the division.

January to July 2017 recorded 34 murders. So far this year, about 21 have been recorded.

He said all major crimes in the parish are down, with the police having a 51 percent cleared up rate.

In the meantime, Superintendent Smith said the police are still waiting on the results of DNA testing to positively identify 3 burnt bodies found in separate incidents, some weeks ago.

He said samples were collected from relatives of the persons who police suspect to be the victims, and sent to the lab for analysis.

On May 28, the burnt remains of a man were found in the trunk of a burnt out car in Claremont. The vehicle had been rented from Kingston.

Then on May 31, the charred remains of 2 persons were found in Hadden, Moneague.
