Maxi Priest takes Reggae Sumfest Night 2

by July 23rd, 2018

The curtains for the 2018 staging of Reggae Sumfest closed minutes after six on Sunday morning in Catherine Hall Montego Bay.

Night 2, though not as big as Night 1, got a good turnout. From the stellar lineup, the night belonged to Maxi Priest who could do no wrong. He was in his element. Maxi Priest was high energy from start to finish. After belting out a few hits, he was joined on stage by entertainer New Kidz who provided a great balance adding a bit of edginess with his dancehall flavour which complimented Maxi’s vocals.

Those who waited until the early morn were thrilled by Cham and his all female band. The dancehall deejay who is clearly not aging, delivered an energetic set taking patrons back to the 90s dishing out a slew of hits.

Damian Junior Gong Marley was good. The Gonzillia who celebrated his 40th birthday was serenaded by his young song Elijah. The young superstar danced for the massive crowd before taking his dad’s microphone to deliver his rendition of Stevie Wonder’s hit “I Just Called To Say I Love You.”

Capleton who had the hardest task of the night, showed why he is the king of fire. Despite a band change in the wee hours, King Shango was still able to blaze a fire in the early morning. While some patrons strolled out the venue, many stayed behind to tun it up with the fireman.

Beres Hammond did well. The king of lovers rock invited spectator Beenie Man on stage during his one and a half hour long set.

Other entertainers who did well include Jesse Royal, Keznamdi, Fantan Mojah, and Naomi Cowan.
