by July 23rd, 2018

The St. Ann Municipal Corporation has begun trucking water to some communities affected by water shortage, due to the continuing drought.

Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay Michael Belnavis told Irie FM News that among the affected areas are Alexandria and Bamboo.

As it relates to Bamboo, the Mayor said it’s customary for residents to travel to the neighbouring district of Lewis to get water.

Mayor Belnavis said the water problem is affecting mostly residents in hilly communities.

He said the Corporation had an issue with its water trucks, but that has since been resolved.

Meantime, the St. Ann Municipal Corporation has been allocated some funding from the government to set in motion its drought mitigation initiatives.

Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay Michael Belnavis said the corporation is being proactive in its response to the impact of the dry spell affecting the parish.

Mayor Belnavis said schools and homes will be given priority for trucked water supplied by the Corporation.
