Jamaica’s swimming star Alia Atkinson landed her fourth medal last evening at the 2018 CAC Games in Barranquilla Colombia.
The 2017 sportswoman of the year claimed the bronze medal when she placed third in the women’s 100 metres butterfly where she was timed at 1-minute-00.13 seconds as Carolina Guevara of Mexico took the gold in 59.31 seconds.
Atkinson has already won gold in the the women’s 100 meters breastroke, the women’s 50 meters breastroke and the women’s 50 meters butterfly
In the meantime Bryana Renuart was 2nd in the b’ final of the women’s 400 metres individual medley, where she clocked 5-minutes-10.96 seconds.
This morning James gunning placed fourth in his heat in the men’s 200 meters freestyle in 1 minute 53.76 seconds.
Rafael Davila of Colombia took the heat in 1 minute 51.08 seconds
Jamaica now lies 9th in the medal table with 5 medals 3 gold and two bronze, while Mexico continues to be the runaway leaders on the standings with 125 medals, with 46 gold, 44 silver and 35 bronze.
There was victory for Jamaica in the women’s basketball competition yesterday .
…….Tashawna Higgins with 19 points and captain Sasha Dixon 14 powered the Jamaican ladies to a 62-57 triumph over Guatemala in the 5th to 8th place playoff match up.
The Jamaican ladies will tackle the US Virgin Island at 3:30 this afternoon in the battle for 5th place.
Meanwhile Jamaica’s men’s hockey team suffered their second straight loss at the tournament.
This after they were blanked 5-nil by Cuba yesterday.
On the flip side Jamaican women’s hockey players will go for win number two when they face Trinidad and Tobago this afternoon at 2 o’ clock Jamaica time.
In women’s football Jody Brown and Chinyelu Asher were both on target for the national under 20 reggae girls who secured their first victory of the tournament, in a 2-1 win over host Colombia .
The win which ended the two match losing streak of the reggae girls came a little too late as the Jamaicans failed to advance from the group.
Coach Lorne Donaldson says the experience in Colombia will serve as a crucial platform for the Jamaican team.
The Jamaican male squash team of Chris Binnie, Lewis Walters and Anthony Burrowes lost their opening qualification game in pool b, going down 3-love to Colombia. Walters lost his game 3-11, 6-11, 8-11 to Juan Vargas, Binnie then lost the second game 11-3, 9-11, 6-11, 3-11, before Burrowes fell 11-9 , 7-11, 4-11, 3-11 to Andres Herrera.
