Police call for boycott of businesses allegedly supporting human trafficking

by July 28th, 2018

Head of the country’s anti- trafficking in persons unit, Deputy Superintendent Carl Berry, is urging the public to boycott business establishments that support child labour and other forms of human trafficking.

DSP Berry says no longer do paedophiles search for their victims by going to their schools, instead these victims are being sought via the internet.

He argues that their task is being made easy, because children leave their electronic footprints, when they post their pictures on their social media pages.

However, DSP Berry wants consumers to adopt and mirror the US policy, where it has prevented government agencies from doing business with companies, believed to be involved in human trafficking, among other things.

He says human traffickers are targeting children, especially young girls, on the basis that they see them as having a longer shelf life.

He was speaking at the just concluded, two day Human Trafficking International conference in Trelawny.
