Irie FM’s Bob Clarke to get National Honours

Veteran broadcaster Irie FM’s Bob Clarke is among scores of persons to be recognized with National Honours later this year.

Walter ‘Bob’ Charles Clarke, who is also one of the founders of reggae radio Irie FM, will receive the order of distinction in the rank of officer, for service to the entertainment industry, especially broadcasting.

Meantime, well known singer Harry Belafonte is to get the order of merit for outstanding contribution to music.

Another artiste to be recognized is Winston Foster, more popularly known as Yellowman, who will receive the order of distinction officer rank.

Among the recipients for order of Jamaica are international sensation Grace Jones for her contribution to entertainment, and, Chairman of the Tourism Enhancement Fund Godfrey Dyer.

Swimmer Alia Atkinson is to receive the order of distinction commander rank, for her contribution to the sport and being the first black woman to win a championship title.

Also receiving awards will be 3 persons who helped rescue residents at the Walker’s Place of Safety in Kingston, during a fire in January.

Grace Allen, Kimani Anderson and Selana Reid will get the badge of honour for gallantry.

The awards will be presented on Heroes’ Day, October 15.
