by August 20th, 2018

Secretary General of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association Byron Farquharson says the association has made some gains in recovering the over one hundred million dollars that was defrauded from its coffers

The Secretary General was not able to say how much of that figure has been recovered.

However, Mr. Farquharson says three high-end real estate properties have been awarded to the JTA after it was discovered that portions of the more than one hundred million dollars which were embezzled were used to purchase these properties by the former financial officer Marlon Francis.

Speaking at the 54th annual conference earlier today (Aug 20) Mr. Farquharson told delegates that, the properties were awarded to the JTA by the courts, but their transfer was delayed.

Mr. Farquharson states that the association is working to regain the lost resources.
