Jhaniele Fowler named in Suncorp Super Netball Team of the Year

by August 29th, 2018

Sunshine Girls star goal-shooter Jhaniele Fowler has been named on the 2018 Suncorp Super Netball Team of The Year.

It comes after an outstanding debut season for the West Coast Fever where she led the league in scoring with a whopping 783 goals, including an Australian single game record 66 on two occasions.

Fowler said, “I am pleased with the performance thus far from myself and my team mates, I couldn’t have done it without them.

“I had placed great expectations [at the start of the season] as I knew I was coming into a very good team and that I would make an impact, so I knew we would have gone good, but we’ve gone much better than I was expecting.

“I feel the pressure is naturally balanced across the court, the girls have to work so hard to get the ball to me and I’m just there to shoot it.

Fowler, who also finished second in rebounds with 35, led the Fever to the Grand Final where her 53 goals from 55 attempts was not enough to prevent 62-59 loss to Sunshine Coast Lightning who were winning back to back titles.

She is joined on the Team of The Year by Fever teammate Jessica Anstiss, Gretel Tippett (Queensland Firebirds), Liz Watson (Melbourne Vixens), Serena Guthrie (Giants Netball) and Sunshine Coast Lightning duo Karla Pretorius and Geva Mentor.

The team of the year was selected from 3-2-1 votes cast by a high performance judge in each match during the season.
