Smooth traffic flow in Corporate Area today despite construction works

by September 3rd, 2018

It would seem that fears of being severely hampered by traffic delays and detours due to road works in the Corporate Area were unfounded, as the relevant authorities have sought to ensure that measures put in place to assist with ease of traffic, worked well today (Sept 3).

Those measures included high visibility of police officers to guide motorists along affected roadways which had a spike in travelers for the start of the new school year today.

Head of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch SSP Calvin Allen told Irie FM News that the feedback from motorists was positive.

He said some resources had to be redeployed, following an assessment.

The police and soldiers will continue to monitor traffic flow over the next few days.

Meantime, despite apprehensions surrounding traffic changes along the Constant Spring main road in St. Andrew, there were no major disruptions or undue lateness caused to schools in the vicinity.

Principals of several schools in the area have reported that traffic flow along Constant Spring Road was mostly smooth and the majority of their students arrived early for school.

Though some schools did report late comers for the first day, the principals say the lateness could not be attributed to the on-going road improvement works in the Corporate Area.

The National Works Agency (NWA) yesterday advised that effective 6:00 a.m. today, the section of Constant Spring road, between Cassava Piece road and Mary Brown’s corner would be converted to a one way corridor.

The change will be effective for two weeks, until road works in the region are completed.

And, the National Works Agency has indicated that while some minor tweaking had to be done, traffic in the Corporate Area today flowed smoothly, despite concerns about traffic changes due to road works.

NWA Communications Manager Stephen Shaw told Irie FM News that the traffic management centre is monitoring the situation.

He said the slight modification was made at Balmoral avenue.
