Met Service keeping close watch on systems

by September 9th, 2018

The Met Service is keeping a keen eye on a few systems that have developed just east of the Caribbean, as well as one just west of the island.

The storms: Florence, Helene and Isaac, are bearing down on Jamaica’s regional neighbours.

The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) has advised that Isaac is forecast to be near hurricane strength when it approaches the Lesser Antilles in a few days.

Several Jamaicans on social media have already expressed concern for the projected track of Isaac, despite weather officials indicating that the storm is expected to gradually weaken.

Closer to home, the Met Service has picked up, on an area of disturbed weather between Cuba and Honduras.

Meteorologist Javed Hudson explains that the system has a 20 % chance of development in the next 5 days, and could bring some rains.

As it relates to the hurricanes now out, they do not threaten Jamaica.
