NCU vehicle searches cause traffic delays

Motorists in Manchester were left disgruntled, after security checks at the entrance to the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) resulted in a major traffic pile up this morning (Sep 25).

Scores of motorists were caught up in the traffic as security personnel checked vehicles entering the university compound.

Some students and staff were late for classes as the traffic pileup stretched from Manchester road to Decarterart road. Reports suggest that the situation last for more than an hour.

One taxi operator Dalbert Clake told Irie FM News that the actions of the institution resulted in inconvenience him and other motorists.

Our Manchester correspondent reports that police later arrived at the entrance of the university campus and the security checks ended soon after.

Meantime, Northern Caribbean University has issued an apology to the commuting public for the traffic congestion that occurred this morning, as a result of security checks at its main gate on Manchester road in Mandeville.

An official explains that periodically security checks are undertaken to ensure the campus is safe.

The official adds that the timing this morning led to the pile up in traffic on the main road.

The process was later aborted.
