JCF gets new polygraphers

Five members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), have been certified as polygraphers.

Polygraphers are administrators of polygraphs, more commonly known as lie detector tests.

The five officers, who were trained through support from the United States Embassy, will join staff currently working at the JCF’s polygraph unit.

The JCF says since its inception, the polygraph unit has tested of over 400 JCF applicants, which resulted in over 50 of them not meeting the standard requirements.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force polygraph unit has also had a regional impact.

Two polygraphers from the JCF’s unit visited Guyana and conducted 16 polygraph examinations for the security detail of the President of Guyana.

The unit received high commendation from the Guyanese government for the professionalism and expertise of the members in doing their job.

Detective Sergeant Dwight Sommers, one of the new polygraphers, spoke of the benefit of having gone through the training in the most recent batch.

He said Jamaica is better able to ensure that persons accepted into the JCF are of high integrity, strong in character and free from corruption.

The training was described by the participants as intense, comprehensive and fulfilling.

One of the high points they mentioned, was that police officers achieved some of the highest grades in the history of the school.

Two members of the department of correctional services were also trained alongside the JCF officers.
