Reggae Girl Khadija Shaw named SEC Offensive Player of the Week

Reggae Girl Khadija Shaw has been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week in the United States.

It comes after she scored a hat-trick to lead the University of Tennessee to a 3-1 win over SEC rivals Kentucky on Friday…..a result that saw the Lady Volunteers extending their win streak to 3 games.

With the performance, Shaw became the third player in program history to record multiple hat tricks in her college career – joining Lady Vol alumnae Allison Campbell (1998-99) and Melissa Covington (1996-98). Shaw tallied three goals in a 3-0 shutout victory at Belmont last season.

It marks the fourth SEC weekly honor for Shaw’s who tallied an incredible 128 goals and 72 assists in her four-year high school career In Jamaica with St. Jago.

The Spanish Town native, in the meantime, has joined up with the Reggae Girlz team ahead of the CONCACAF Women’s Championship in Edinburg, Texas.

The tournament which gets underway on Thursday is set run until October 17. The top three teams will earn an automatic bid to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Jamaicans have been drawn in Group B alongside Canada, Costa Rica and Cuba. They open their campaign against Canada on Friday.

Group A includes United States, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago and Panama.
