Classes dismissed early at Morant Bay High due to adverse weather

by October 4th, 2018

Following the extension of a Flash Flood Watch throughout the island today (Oct 4) at least one local school took the preventative measure to have students released from classes early.

Principal of the Morant Bay High School, Dr. Dalton Shaw says he was concerned about the heavy showers being experienced in Morant Bay this afternoon and took the decision to send the students home.

Dr. Shaw says the decision was taken to ensure that students did not face any danger or difficulties finding their way home.

He says normal operations will resume at the institution tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a representative from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) noted that the agency had not received any report of adverse effects from the lingering showers across the island despite the flash flood watch for low lying areas.
