Leverkusen boss unhappy with Leon Bailey

by October 19th, 2018

Bayer Leverkusen boss Rudi Völler is demanding a meeting with star Jamaican winger Leon Bailey.

Bailey traveled to Jamaica to represent the national team last week, and ultimately did not play because his half-brother Kyle Butler was not invited to the squad as he said the Jamaican Football Federation had allegedly promised.

Having traveled to Jamaica, the player was unable to train with the club and the whole situation has angered Völler – the club’s sporting director – who is demanding answers from the 21-year-old and his adoptive father who is also his agent.

“The whole matter has been anything than good. We will sit down with Leon’s father in the next 14 days, talk about it all and see how it goes. The guy has already made a mistake,” Völler is quoted saying in a German newspaper.

So far, Bailey hasn’t been able to replicate his performances from last season, and Völler is adamant to help the winger return to form.

“We all – and especially the coaching team – need to get Leon back to the level he used to be at,” Völler said.

Bailey has made nine appearances for Leverkusen this season, scoring once.

Leverkusen, who are 14th on the Bundesliga table, return to action from the international break with a home game against Hannover 96 on Saturday.
