by October 19th, 2018

The cholera cemetery, on Gloucester Avenue in Montego Bay, St. James may soon become a parking lot.

The St. James Municipal Corporation has indicated that it is seeking advice on the legality, surrounding the official closure of cemeteries, in order to facilitate the development of a parking lot, on the land space.

Director of Planning at the St. James Municipal Corporation, Trevion Manning said this would help rectify the long standing issue of inadequate parking in the resort town.

He said bodies are no longer being buried at the decades old cholera cemetery, adding that the municipal corporation, and the Urban Development Corporation, are examining the options.

He was addressing the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry Breakfast Forum at the Sea Gardens hotel earlier today (Oct 19).
