Second ODI between Windies & India end in high-scoring tie

The West Indies and India battled to an exciting and high-scoring tie in the second One Day International in Visakhapatnam.

It comes after the Windies led by an unbeaten near run-a-ball unbeaten century from Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmeyer’s sensational hitting ended on 321 for 7 responding to India’s 321 for 6.

Hope smashed a boundary off the last delivery of the match after the Windies started the final over needing 14 to pull of a series equalling victory.

The Bajan ended unbeaten on 123 from 134 balls – an inning that included 10 fours and 3 sixes – and put  on  143   for the  4th wicket with Hetmeyer who was on fire before missing out on a second consecutive century when he fell for 94 from 64 balls, hitting 4 fours and 7 sixes.

Chandrapaul Hemraj 32, Rovman Powwell 18 and Marlon Samuels 13 were the other main contributors while Kuldeep Yadav (3-67) was the most successful bowler for the home team.

Earlier Virat Kohli starred the show  when  he  completed  back  to  back  centuries on  his  way  to  becoming  the  fastest  batsman  to  get  to  10,000 runs  in  One Day cricket.

The Indian captain ended unbeaten on 157 from 129 deliveries – his 37th ODI century – and stroked 13 fours and 4 sixes while getting to the magical 10,000 run figure on reaching 81, achieving the landmark in  his  205th ODI inning, 54 quicker than previous record holder, the iconic Sachin  Tendulkar.

Ambati Rayudu, meanwhile, contributed 73 while putting on 139 for the third wicket with Kohli.

Debutante Obed McCoy had returns of 2 for 71 that included the scalps of Mahendra Singh Dhoni for 20 and Ravindra Jadeja for 13.

Ashley Nurse (2-46) was the most economical of the Windies bowlers while there was one wicket each for Samuels and Kemar Roach.

The third ODI will be played in Pune on Saturday. India leads the 5 match series 1-0.
